Yep that’s right, its new segment time here on the “Goosing with G” blog and we’re bringing back a classic one, dick of the week.
When I first thought to revive this for a segment I figured that my state capitol would be the easiest shoe in, and then I see this pop up the day after the WBC, which I so lovingly blogged about already. But, just look at this “take” right here:
Uhhhhhh, how about shut up old man?? Imagine being so irrelevant that ESPN has to revive you with guest spots on Get Up where you can do your best Skip Bayless impression and get off takes like this. I mean, Stephen A. love him or hate him, the man knows his role and he has TAKES.
But even Stephen A. knew this was off the rails. Just look at this face.

“This guy did not stay off the weed… What the hell is he talking about?”
-Stephen A’s brain (probably)
I don’t know why these guys like Mad Dog and Skip feel like they have to peacock and bring up outrageous takes like this just to feel sort of relevant. Just stick to your talk radio man, get out of my face with this.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the Kirk Gibson home run. What baseball fan doesn’t know that one?
But it had it’s place in baseball’s history.
Just like Ohtani striking out Trout, two future Hall of Famers (probably), and yes Chris, current teammates. But it was more than that.
It was the lead up to a new year of baseball that needs momentum. That needs more eyes than ever. That needs moments of Goliath vs Godzilla, USA vs Japan, on a global stage, to bring eyes to the game. To create the next generation of Mike Trouts, or Kirk Gibsons…
It earned its place in baseball history.
As of this blog, the winning at bat has 10.4 million views on twitter… 2.3 million on YouTube. But hey, 36k is respectable.

We need less of people like this talking about baseball and more that are willing to embrace current moments in history and respect them for what they are instead of clinging to your old ways. That is what will get viewership up and will drive the game into relevancy.
Not old man yelling at the clouds.
