What Happened to Us?

I feel like Scar: “I’m surrounded by idiots.”

Okay, maybe “idiots” is a bit harsh but, I don’t know what to think anymore.

Sometimes, it just seems like life is a fever dream nowadays… This is why I just threw away the news years ago. I will tune in for world disasters or major events that require me to learn something about in order to be a worldly person. Things like COVID news early on, the breaking of the Ukraine War, Kanye taking up arms with Tia Tequila on humanitarian issues, the real issues.

But other than that my brain and attention has been laser focused on sports, vidya games, and things that make me and my friends laugh because I just cannot give my effort and life to fighting over the gender politics of an M&M character or for the right to keep a gas stove.

I mean this is some stuff not even Orwell could have imagined. We have willingly blue-pilled ourselves into thinking that those “woke” people are out to ruin our lives one new gender at a time… Screaming about a rigged government and election that led to a literal stampede onto our Capitol building and into the face of our Democracy itself.

But on the flip side, I think it’s equally as crazy to try and assert that someone is a bigot because they might have misgendered some random stranger dressed like they’re from the Capital City in the Hunger Games, or for saying that they don’t want their children being exposed to these, let face it, newer LGBTQ+ teachings.

I am saying that because, sure, as a kid I remember the day that I learned what a dildo was. I sitting in the back of the bus in 6th grade, a place where and entire new world was thrust into my young brain. But, I didn’t have teachers with rainbow flags until late into High School… Not that I am saying anything is wrong with kids learning about the world but like, when does the world allow kids to be kids anymore?

I need to get back on track here… No one understands the real thing that we are lacking and what is exacerbating this whole issue of divide in our country: empathy.

Now, everyone has their own levels of empathy and what they allow themselves to let go, but we all need to address that no one side is inherently “evil” in what they are doing… We just need to realize that everyone out there at the end of the day is working towards the same goal, “What is the best way for me to take care of myself and my family?”

We don’t have to agree on everything, and the politicians definitely don’t want us to. The discontent and the hot button issue rhetoric is purely out of a place to evoke emotion from us in order to show up and vote. To keep the whole machine going…

I know I should care more about what these people think and do but, LBJ (the REAL LBJ) just broke Kareem’s all-time scoring record last night in the NBA so, I think I’ll just watch basketball Twitter tear each other apart with their “GOAT” takes instead of whatever is going on in DC.

Sorry for a bit of a downer with this one. Just wanted to shout into the void for a few seconds, I think.
