I Just Started this Blog and Now it’s Being Threatened by AI

We have seen this story before, but now we are on borrowed time…

It is a story that Hollywood has loved to reprise in many ways, and one that has never felt closer to home. They showed us examples through *spoiler warning* The spaceship in 2011 a Space Odyssey, the machines in Matrix, iRobot robots, even the spaceship in Wall-E gave us eerie omens of times to come…

The Machines Will Rule

It started out easy… The computers slowly introduced us to a fun “toy” that could guess what you were thinking about in only 20 questions… “It sounds too good to be true!!” you might say… and you would be CORRECT.

It has devolved into chaos that not even Keanu Reeves could imagine…

It began with some simple T9 predictive typing on our Nokia brick phones… Eventually we became numb to Google and other companies pushing ads towards us based off of our data… Don’t even get me started on autocorrect on our current phones… (No, I wasn’t calling my buddy a “ducking idiot”) So much for being a smartphone.

WAKE UP PEOPLE! They are already trying to kill us under the guise of “self-driving cars.” They have lulled us into a sense of complacency by slowly letting us decide less and less for ourselves… Now even my small hobby blog faces annihilation.

A.I. Blogging Is Here

I could be fairly late to this game which it seems like I am but, allegedly you can use several different platforms to write full form blogs for you in a matter of seconds. I decided to use ChatGPT software to write some blog matter for me in and starting here I will add numbers to parts of this blog and at the end I will reveal which paragraphs were written with AI and which came from my own brain.1

ChatGPT is a powerful language generation model developed by OpenAI. It is based on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) architecture and is trained on a massive amount of text data, allowing it to generate human-like text with a high degree of coherence and fluency. One of the key features of ChatGPT is its ability to continue a given text prompt, generating a response that is relevant and coherent with the input. This makes it well suited for tasks such as text completion, conversation generation, and language translation.2

But not only is that what makes it perfect for blogging, but for a new era in web search. You can type a simple prompt into ChatGPT asking for a simple spaghetti recipe and you will receive exactly that. No longer will people be subjected to google searching recipes only to receive a list of links for blogs that are 99% fluff and 1% recipe.3

The proponents of AI would tell you that it’s “incapable of independent thought” and that if it actually took over it would be our fault. But I’m not buying it… Sure, the Hollywood depictions are “fiction” but, so is the Simpsons. And that show has shown us time and time again that some “fiction” is actually veiled premonitions of what is going to come in the future. So, to that argument I would say that only time will tell…4

In the end, I guess AI does help in some aspects where a human brain might not be “fast” enough to process. Whether it’s with the money to be made on Wall Street where seconds are really worth possible fortunes to be made. Or in healthcare, where a computer can analyze a patient’s issues and comb through archives full of medical information in seconds to try and determine diagnoses or plans for care. IBM and Amazon have used AI and data tracking to enhance the viewing experience for countless sports from tennis to football with real time data and models to help with the broadcast analysis.5

It is important to remember that computers are simply tools that can be used for good or bad, depending on how they are used. Of course, you should always be aware of the ethical implications of using AI and be respectful of other people’s rights and feelings when using AI-generated content. But as long as you’re using it responsibly and with a good sense of humor, there’s no reason why AI can’t be a source of entertainment and laughter.6

In conclusion, will they take over? Probably not.
Have we had instances of AI becoming self aware? Yes.

So, I will keep using this ducking autocorrect and whatever but, I will go full Will Smith on a roomba if I have to. I will not let the computers win.

I’m not sure my little experiment went quite like I wanted to, and it took almost an hour to finally get to use ChatGPT. It kept telling me it was “at capacity” and then, after getting in, it took SEVERAL attempts of asking it questions before it finally answered me. But anyways, paragraphs number 2 and 6 were written by AI and the rest was me, probably don’t need to be scared of the bots after all.
